Hey guys wondering if someone knows if a 7 disc PTO clutch from a 8550 or 4w305 would fit into a 5 disc clutch tractor? Tractor will have a engine that makes 270 at the crank and dont want the PTO to slip. The Plates and Frictions are the same but dont know if the clutch assembly itself will physically fit into the tractor. never had either apart before.
Thanks guys!!!! |

How long before you think you'll need to replace the rest of the drivetrain?

Thing is this is going to be strictly a PTO use tractor. Have plenty other tractors for drawbar pulling. This tractor still will be all "Allis" powered too.

Well I guess I'll leave the cat out of the bag. She is going to have a 685I from a N7 stuffed into her. Going to be the dedicated chopping tractor. But it will look a bit different than a 8000 series. I'll be making a build thread once I get more parts collected and made. Engine is sitting on the shop floor at this moment.

I looked at your tag line...would like to see pic of the D17 with the 3500..
I bet that took some figuring how to get the tin work to look good,,besides all the other "make it fit" stuff Seems like I remember seeing pictures of some of y'alls work before and its first class all the way.. |

Well the D17 is still in the shop, engine is slowly getting built. Kinda if a side project. Play money is getting hard to get with the milk price. But its not dead.
I'll make a build thread for the 8050 here soon. |

The 685I is so wide in the front cover area, I hate to think of what your going to do to the frame rails to make that fit.

It's not that wide. Should fit without cutting much. No more than the 426s frames are cut.

I'll be watching this one too.. I think the 516 shoulda been in the 8070's...
cool project.. at least your keeping it all Allis,, not doing a 8.3 cummins ,,, altho that's a good choice also...

Cant wait to get it on the chopper. Was doing some figuring today. Frame rails well need 6 inches added in length. So not to bad. Got another set of rails already. Instead of adding into the one set and having two seams, cut two sets up and have one seam.

You may want to put the seam as far forward as possible. Less bending moment on your weld the farther forward you go. Probably won’t matter either way though as long as you don’t load it down with weight

Plan on welding the rail and then plating on the inside. And have the front axle pivot frame bolted to both pieces of the frames.

Do you think the radiator will keep the 516 cool enough under load? The N7 radiator is huge,

I'm hoping it will with my 9 blade poly fan I have. I'll be making a build thread for it pretty soon. So be on the lookout.
