well i am new here  and i need some help i bought what i think is a wd but  i am not sure because i have been looking at a lot of pics of them and there is a lot of diffrences  between them and i also have an operators guide for a wd  and on talks about stuff that i dont have on my tractor such as feet brakes i do not have they are hand brakes the throttle is diffrent form what the book says but there is a stamping on the rear of the gear housing (pumpkin) that says "tractor wd R-996 i was told that it was a 1946 wd but they were not made that early i am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out

Sounds like you got a WC. Styled WC's were made from 38 to 48 and had hand brakes. the sheet metal is very similar to the WD. Post a picture and maybe show us where you found the wd R-996.WC's also had a shifter that came straight up and then a bend with the longest part of the shifter bent toward the rear of the tractor. WD shifters were short straight up. The WD also had a lever opposite the throttle quadrant that ran the hydraulic valve. WC's had no hydraulics.

Beaker, are you sure that ser# doesn't say WC xxx? If you have hand brakes you most likely have a WC. They are very good tractors, but don't have a lot of the advancements that the WD had. Does the rear diff housing look kinda like what came from a heavy truck? Smooth and curvy? WD was more squared looking. WC was curvy.
