Checking out my new hard drive. I got a 240GB SSD, Solid State Drive. It is noticeably faster than the old mechanical hard drive. I cloned the old drive to the new one. When I bought the new drive I also got a case for the old drive so now I have a 500GB external hard drive for storage. The new drive is a Sandisk and I got it off of Amazon for $35. I've been running it for a few days now and so far, no problems. If you can I would highly recommend everybody get one. A great advancement in the computer world.

I put an SSD in my desk top PC about 5 years ago. Boot time is less than a minute. Very fast.

Steve, you put the OS and IMPORTANT stuff on the SSD, use the 900GB drive for 'data' and other stuff.... Jay

SSDs are cool... literally... they use less power, so the inside of the case stays cooler, making 'em great for laptops... however... SSDs use e2prom as the core media, and that means it has limited write cycles. While those limitations may be around 100,000 write cycles, if the OS is using the drive as buffer/swap, or the OS uses a dedicated area of the drive for frequent read/write cycles, it 'burns' the SSD, and most frequently, the bad sectors wind up being the end of the drive, at least for that OS flavor. Don't ask me how I know... ![]() Best to use the SSD for limited write cycle. Good news is that read cycle is unlimited, and yeah, it's FAST. I've managed to use a 'burned out' SSD as the boot disk for a Linux box dedicated to one function, and it's a read-only system, so until the circuitry actually fries, it'll work great.

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

I've revived several old laptops that were basically unusable by swapping to SSD. Running the Wise Registry Cleaner (free download) finishes off the tune-up.
