I have some tenants whining about them but my driveways are better than many streets I've been on. Of course they have to drive 40 MPH down drives that have 10 MPH posted.

Gary...ask them if they prefer speed bumps above ground or just leave the ones that are below? lol I thinks we forget about them thru the rest of the year, then remember when they show up again! tell your road depts. to not waste money on that cold pack stuff, use gravel instead, the cold pack they use here, they leave it about 1-2 inches above the hole, thinking traffic will tamp it down, but the traffic doesn't and the first snow blade that comes thru, it zings that cold pack off into the ditch and the pothole is back again!

Here in the big city they have a web site to report potholes. Seems that if no one reported the pothole and you break a wheel or blow a tire they are not responsible but if it has been reported they high tail it there to patch it. I take the camera and get a picture then report it. 2 days later it is fixed. Few snow plows here so they stay fixed longer with the cold patch junk.

Only in Michigan does whole cars come up missing, later to be found at the bottom of a pothole. BUT our great liberal governor is raising the gas tax 45 cents a gallon so all the potholes in Lansing and Detroit are fix.

The gas tax........actually isn't a bad idea taken by itself. It does take money to fix roads, and gas tax gets money from the people who are using the roads, and does so in proportion to the level of usage.
The problem is all of the other waste in the system. We already had a comparatively high gas tax rate....being wasted. Lottery, wasted. Property taxes, wasted. It would be nice, if when the gas tax was proposed, the plan was something like, we're going to raise gas tax, but lower some other tax to offset it, and put the burden of roads being fixed on those who use the roads the most. Instead, it's just more more more tax, and is never enough. Look at MI's ranking for business environment, from the bottom of the heap under the last dem administration, to a very nice improvement under Snyder. Now this new genius Granholm Clone is going to tax us right back to the bottom.

From what I have been told that new gas tax here in Michigan will be on all gas which means that off road fuel will be taxed the same as road fuel. This means that farm users, lawn mowers, and etc will also pay this great new tax.

I 35 in downtown Mpls MN is going to be closed nights on a 5 mile section - both directions to fix potholes - suppose to be a 4 night + to try to get things fixed - they have been closing 3 lanes into 1 over last week to try to fix some but gave up and going for full overnight closure .

city of Omaha...put a wheel tax on everyones vehicles that live in the city! every regular car gets the tax on 5 wheels. yes, they tax the spare tire too. and every motorcycle gets taxed on 3 wheels...in case every motorcycle ads a side car. they tried to get the tax on every vehicle of all surrounding counties because some of them use the streets in their city! that didn't fly. now they are trying to annex a city in a neighboring county so they can get more tax money, that's not over yet. they had to build this big convention center, and now that it's built, they can't even pay the interest on it not alone pay the debt down. the whole reason for road tax when implemented in our state was to keep the roads up. seems that tax money has gone elsewhere. like the cig tax, had to go build a convention center in the capitol city and also pay to keep up the state fair grounds. the fair grounds got so bad they moved it to another city...all brand new, but none of the cost came from the cig taxes cuz there wasn't any of that money left after spending it on other stuff we really didn't need! I could go on and on just like ya'll can too. heaven help us if there could be any money left over to pass into the next year!

Michigan"s new Governor campaigned on "Fix the damn roads" and presto how the roads will be fixed is 45 cents a gallon more tax! We all ready had a tax increase on fuel along with 6 % sales tax. The problem is the salt they dump on the roads keeps them freezing and thawing but MDOT and local Road Commissions have to to keep drivers from killing each other! Every one is in a hurry and no one is at fault if they have an accident just ask their Attorney ! What many do not realize is the 45 cent tax increase goes for is "STATE ROADS" not County and Local Roads ! Those are on their own or what trickles down. What I would like to see is 2 cents more on Sales Tax with a dedication to Road Repair. That way everyone pays Electric Cars, Tourists. We have to rethink how we maintain roads in the winter or 2 cent sales tax or 45 cents will be for nothing! Adding 45 cents per gallon of fuel would make Michigan the highest in the Nation and the Governor is not done as she thinks Education and the Environment need more money! The last woman Governor Jenifer Granholm Michigan had ran jobs out of the State as fast as she could! Indiana welcomed the businesses that fled across the border!

Here in PA, we are the leader with I believe it is 77 cents per gallon in the US, plus or minus a few small numbers.

They're all getting in on it. February 19, 2019Under the governor’s spending proposal, the state’s gas tax would increase by 70 percent from the current 28.6 cents per gallon to 48.6 cents. That would make Minnesota’s gas tax the fourth-highest in the U.S., behind only Pennsylvania, California and Washington. |

What is the real pain in MI is the previous GOP reiime raise the gas tax and vehicle registration fees. Then they directed the funds to the General Fund, not to the roads. Their own little gold mine for their pet projects! Another problem in MI is the weight limit. It is the highest in the US and possibly the world. When you see a gravel train or steel hauler rolling down the roads on anywhere from 42 to 60 tires, you know they are causing big damage. It also appears the state does not require the contractors to build the roads with the capability to carry the heavier weights.

was in the big city today, and HOLY TARLESS...the pot holes there are deep suckers! I sat in the burb while the old lady....oooops...I mean the loving wife was seeing her foot doc, and was watching a road crew filling in pot holes, they'd fill 4-5 then take a 45 minute smoke break. then move on to a few more then take another 45 munute smoke break! I think even my sore back could do that job!

Potholes are caused by the expansion and contraction of ground water after the water has entered into the ground under the pavement. It should be repaired as early as possible to reduce the difficulties arise due to potholes. I heard about the Blacktop Companies Long Island, which take the contract of pothole repair.

It'll be interesting to see how long the 'top coat' lasts on my road. It looks like a 3/8" clear stone with thin tar mix ,that was 1" thick THEN compressed by a medium sized roller 3 times( I watched). Cityguy says it'll last 10 years, yeah, right..... I'm thinking 2 maybe 3 winters. Once the salt is tossed on, it'll sit in the millions of moon craters, sun comes out, then HOT saltwater that will seep deep into the 'road'. Then the top coat will rip away from the base( more tar and chips...) Original road was built in early '50s, was smooth, solid and 'tight', just wavy from loaded 'big rigs'.. oh well...
