my trans is leaking and it seems to drip out from right behind where the hand clutch lever linkage hooks to the side of the clutch housing on the right side..is there a seal behind there? and is it easy to change?

Yup, that's one thing I've learned about you... Hey, maybe I can get my act together and get my neighbor's WD NF together good enough to make the bridge too. We'll see. |

Well, 'm not being a smart arse now...
Are you talking about the pin about 3" or so long that the hand clutch lever itself pivots on? I just pulled that lever off this weekend to get brakes going on the WD, and it's NOT rigid - meaning I can see where after years of use, that pin would wear enough to let oil ooze by - if the tranny was that full. So, is the tranny THAT full? Edited by CJohnS MI - 08 Sep 2010 at 8:54pm |

it's not where the lever pivots...it's where the linkiage attached to the lever, enters the clutch housing....forward from the lever about 8-10 inches
tranny/differential took 16 quarts...it holds 17 total..so it was LOW...now it's filled to bottom of threads on both fill plugs on left hand side

There is a seal there, the AC part number is 224644. You'll need to take the cover off the hand clutch housing so you can take out the taper set screw from the shifter fork so you can pull that shaft out. Then you need to hold things in place from the top to put the shaft back in again. If the leak is real slow maybe it would be better to just check it regularly and add as needed.

Yea, ya gotta pull the frame rail off to get the shaft out. Also check the bolts that hold the trans housing to the torque tube, the are two on each side that come in from the back, and one on each side that comes in from the front. If these are loose it will leak oil about where Jeffs is leaking. HTH |
