Year of my CA?

Is there any other way to tell exact year of what I believe is about a 52 CA without the serial number by the shifter (Missing), I just bought this last week and may have alot of questions to get her started. Will push starting help to see how much work I may have in electrical alone? Any help greatly appreciated.

You can check the engine serial # or look for casting dates on motor or elsewhere. Casting # on motor should be AM####-##, the last to should be 24 if it's a 1952.

Welcome to the forum! I would assume the tractor had the tranny casing replaced at some point. I think the engine ser# should be on the rear engine flange, left side if sitting on tractor. Not sure if CA still had CE series engines or not, but ser should start with 2 letters then numbers. Letters may be CE. Somebody else will be better on CAs than me. Push starting will work, just make sure you have someone else to push. Be careful. Hope this helps.

The CA still had the CE engine. The early ones had a Mag and later ones had battery ignition. If you have a Mag, then you can pull or push it to get it running. Nice tractor, I have 3 of them. very powerful for there size. Bob

would the magneto be just behind the  radiator on the right side in front of coil and (points/condenser)?

If it has an external coil you will need a battery to provide voltage for the coil to produce a spark. In a magneto ignition the coil is built into the magneto and the magneto generates its own voltage. BTW - Welcome to the forum.

sorry for same posts, was trying to respond to individual post. If I have a battery does that mean no magneto?....Thanks for your replies. I will not bother you all too much and plan to have some motor heads help me till I get closer to real operation and implementation

Many of the magneto ignition tractors had a battery. The battery powered the starter and the lights but was not necessary for the engine to run. There should be only a grounding (kill) wire running to the magneto if it has a wire at all. Some only have a grounding tab on the side of the magneto.

I have a 1951, CA669 with an engine serial number that matches up to the first chart as an early 1951 tractor but the casting number, according to the second chart is a 1956. Dad bought the tractor new in 1951 and it still has the original engine in it so the casting number thing doesn't always work out.
  Pushing or pulling won't tell you much about electrical. If you have a distributor you will need a battery to get it to run. If it doesn't have a battery now and you need it for spark to the distributor it might be best to disconnect the generator from the system. You don't know if it is positive or negative ground and you might let the smoke out of the genny if it still has some in it.
 If it has a magneto you don't need any electrical system except to run lights.
