Makes you wonder how many are still running 60 years later. Maybe someone on the site owns one now or we've seen one or two in a field or at a show.

Interesting pictures. The first pic looks like 39's with the 6 rivet wheels. The second pic looks like cast centers on 38's. The guy crankin the WC musta had a flat cause he's the left wheel up on a block like he wanted to change it. Then he's pumpin it back up. Maybe it was easier to pump up with the wheel off the ground. LOL

Use on a weed-choked field (quack-grass, sage, etc) Cross between no-till and cultivators. Lot's of skinny shanks & shovel like points. Tall & skinny, you run it pushed down into the ground, and it drags up the roots so they can be raked up and pulled off the field afterwards. We had a home-made one, I don't know if you could buy ready-made, never saw one. LOL! We didn't have hogs... |

I found the ones I posted while dredging through the Library of Congress. Only two pages of hits on "Allis Chalmers", but use "tractors", and 50 or more pages of hits. When I first landed in New Mexico in the mid-70s, I thought it was a dry, lifeless place. It wasn't til I got out to the little creek towns and valleys that I found the wealth of life that just abounded. That shot you upped is a classic. |

The machines identified as planters were called listers in Iowa. What we called a go-devil was a different machine as well although I think it did have lister type openers on it.

Them Bs have single rib front, criss cross rears, looks like steering wheel was pre painted all black. I guess the railroad or truck loading crews hand cranked every one to move em out..

None of the B's have the crank stored under the steering tube like Larry's picture. I wonder where they hid em? The tractors all seem to have the clip for the crank.

They prolly are kept some place safe until delivery. It is MHO that the front wheels are darker than the rest of the machine. I know, I know, "it's the lighting" but every view they appear that way. |

Nice pics, I really enjoyed looking at them. I wonder how long it took the day laborer to air up that front tire with that bicycle pump?

before I had a garage full of toys I did the bicycle pump thing a few times on car tires. That is a pretty good workout even if they are just a little low.
