8050 shifting problem

We have an 8050 Allis that won't shift on the high/low/park lever. It was stuck in neutral, so I pulled it home. I have the seat and floor plates out. Both cables function fine, but with cables disconnected I can't move the shifter sticking out the top of the transmission. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like it didn't come all the way out of one range. Remove snapring holding shifter in and look down in hole. Notches may not be lined up. If not, use a long screwdriver to line them up.     MACK

Thanks Mack. I was able to gently persuade it into high and low with a mallet. It's just to stiff for the cable to shift it. Is the snapring under the rubber boot?

Finally got the snap ring in the shifter pulled up out of the transmission. Nothing looks out of place. Does anyone know what my problem with not being able to shift into high low would be?

I think in this case, you need to clean off all the dirt around the cover to the range transmission and remove it for a look see. You should be able to get in there with a pry bar and shift the fork completely forwards and backwards remembering that the shifting dogs have to line up on the gears to complete the shifting of the coupling/collar. There could be something wrong with the shifting rails, which would hinder fork movement. I can't say I've ever had one do as you are describing. I've replaced lots of worn out shift lugs for PARK position and the interlock pin and that's about it. Remember, just because the shift cable moves in and out unhooked, doesn't mean it can do that under a load......i.e. move a shift lever and fork.
