    Posted: 02 Sep 2010 at 11:30am
Greetings, I am new to this forum and have a question.  I just brought home a 2 bottom pull type polw #316296 and am looking for some information on it.  Can anybody tell me the year and also the right tire sizes (It appears to have 2 different sixes for each side).  Any info will help as I start the restoration.

If it is an Allis pull type plow, then it is a number 1, 2 or 4.

To answer your questions correctly, we need more info, or a photo, which would be worth 1000 words.

The Dealer Parts Manuals for those plows will contain all the year by year changes to each model, so it is pretty easy to get the info, as soon as we know which frame it is.

The number you gave us sounds like a moldboard number, but I do not have a way to look it up.

That number came off the frame above the moldboards where "Allis Chalmers" is etched on (actually the number is 312296).  Where do I find the actual serial number.  I see also I can make out 4 digits on the moldboards also, will that help.  I will get a pic when I get it off the trailer Saturday.

Allis would sell any bottom to go with any plow frame.

Numbers off the bottom (share, moldboard, etc) will NOT help you identify the plow frame, but will be invaluable when trying to source new (or at least useable) wear parts.

There is no tag and no stamped serial number, any number you find is just a casting number. The bottoms were not specific to any model so no numbers from them help. One thing easy is the tail wheel, if it actualy helps lift and carries the plow when out of the ground then you have a number 2. If you dont have a tail wheel or have a ridged tail wheel  it could be any of the pull types. As Glenn said a photo works best as they all look the same at a galnce especialy to the unknowledgable. The vast majority of the ones I see on rubber are on cut offs thus tires could be any size. Our 2-14" #2 is on 6.50-15 and cant remember the tail wheel size.

Here are some scans showing the #1 and #2 plows.  Sorry, I don't have any shots of the #4 handy:

312296 isn't in either of my books but mine are newer than the pulled single digit plows.

Sometimes a plow bottom can be identified from parts details, usually the frog as seen with the plow laying on its left side, as that's the position of most of the drawings in my plow bottoms book.
