I was looking through Youtube when I found this. Is this a forum member's? If so it's very unique and awesome. If it's not a member's it's still an awesome looking machine. [TUBE]WpUcRYq73YY&NR=1[/TUBE]

Have you seen that one up close, Charlie?
You probably recall a newspaper cartoon from many, many years ago... Smokey Stover, that drove a two-wheel'd car called the "Foo Mobile". http://www.smokey-stover.com/ Well, some clever guy named Pete Schlatter decided to build one powered by a lawnmower engine... http://www.schlattersinc.com/foo_mobile.shtml The way it stayed balanced, was by actually having FOUR wheels... two on the left, two on the right... and they rolled on the ground INSIDE a tire that had essentially no air pressure. The design was featured in Popular Mechanics. I remember it well, as I read that (and a zillion other things) while being flat on my back, in a hospital bed for most of 1982... I had lots of time to read. Aha- it was June of '78. (Yeah, I actually started reading the current issues, and went backwards to about... 1954... my dad still has most of 'em). If you look closely at this video, you'll see that those tires are rather flat looking... I'll bet he built that cute bugger using Pete's design... Edited by DaveKamp - 01 Sep 2010 at 8:31pm |
