Thinking of throwing a turbo on the 185. Any tips from anyone that has done this? Thanks.

Those 301,s love a turbo, easiest way I have done it is to get everything off a 190 xt or 200, you get the bigger air cleaner, tube, exhaust manifold, crossover tube ,oil lines , etc, they all match up since they both have the 301 diesel ; I put one on a 180 and it stays cool with the 180 radiator , you,ll have to cut out a new hole for the xhaust , and dont weight it down and work it real hard or you will pop the rear end, I go a gear higher maybe a little bigger disc, brushogg , etc, ; works great !!

We had McKim's at Oskaloosa, IA put a turbo on our 185 from an M2 combine. Runs real smooth and sounds good with a straight pipe. Dynos 100 hp without touching the pump. As long as you're not gonna do heavy work with her, you should be fine.

Thanks, guys. I only want a few more ponies for pulling a 16' cultivator and a 4/16 plow, etc. Would adding one set of pie weights be too much with calcium? Thanks again.

I have a 180 and the toughest job it has to do is when we put it on the liquid manure pump. Our JD 3140 has about 100 HP. and the 180 can almost pump as much manure as the 3140. Would like to put a turbo on the 180 to get a few more horses out of it. PTO work is the hardest work it does, it revs up to about 2000 RPM before it smokes too much so that is where we run it. Will the transmission handle it?

Don't have to if you put the turbo on so the exhaust is headed backwards. Will come up right in the same hole, but you will need to modify the oil lines and air intake hose to do that.

We used to do some of them at the dealership, to help make the turbo live you need to install an oil cooler. If you can get the engine setup from an all ready turboed unit great. If not we installed a hydraulic oil cooler form I beleive a 200 in the stock location in front of the radiator and plumbed the turbo feed and return lines through it.
