    Posted: 24 Aug 2010 at 9:26pm
I just bought a 6060 FWA and everything seems to be pretty decent except for the steering tube that connects the left and right steering knuckles. The tube is bent, and the LH tie rod end , which threads into the end of the tube is sloppy. The RH tie rod end is OK, but it is welded into the end of the tube. Agco dealer priced the assembly at over $500.00, but wasn't sure if that included the tie rod ends. Does anyone know if the tie rod ends are the same as the 6060 2wd, or something else?  Thanks, John.

I guess I stumped the panel on this one. I found out that  the LH tie rod end is available, and ordered one. Still waiting on word from the dealer on the RH assy.

the left and right ends are the same on that tie rod. you can cut the weld and thread the end out and thread a new one in in about 20 minutes.

Thanks, Kev, I suspected they might be the same. My tie rod is bent, so I'm going to try to straighten it for now. Still wonder why A-C welded the RH ones. My 6080 is welded too.

AC didn't weld them. Fiat did and they still weld them today. I work in a new holland dealership and all of the tractor lines have one side welded. More than one customer has complained about this over the years. We just explain the above and most walk away happy

Thought I'd bump this up with an update. I ordered two LH tie rod ends, and found a nice piece of 1.5" bar to replace the bent tube. Took the bar to a friend who has a lathe and had him drill ant tap the ends to fit the tie rod ends. Worked out great. Thanks for the replies.

We have a 6060 as well.  Are you sure the bend your looking at isnt a calculated bend from the factory?  Off the top of my head, I know our's has a slight bend as well.  This would also explain the one end being welded as they would not want that bend to twist out of place.

Mark, the tie rod on my 6080 FWA is perfectly straight. The original tie rod on the 6060 was bent so bad it was contacting the pig where it goes through the front support. The new tie rod clears the front support even though the diameter is larger.
