Can I put a 190XT engine in a D19?    The D19 is stuck and I have an opportunity to buy a good running 190XT engine.

There was a recent post on just such a swap only with the 4-cylinder version. Less than 90 days ago. The power steering cylinder is a real issue.

Thanks for the replies.   Sounds like I need to wait for another D19 or perhaps 180 gas engine to show up.

Here is the link to the 190XT engine.   I won't be bidding, but someone else here might be interested.   Ending soon now.

I believe a 180 gas would be about as much work as a 301, depending where your at there's a fair amount of combines with engine's that will fit in there.

$350 is high bid, ending in 10 minutes?  Man, If I had the room, that would be mine.  WOW, if halfway close to there and room in the corner of a garage... I say jump, that's a steal!

Man..... I can't do it... can't do it........  IF I had not just dumped alot of coin on something else this morn..... seriously.... something's gotta be wrong... I would love to know what they used this set up for??

I'm close, but if it doesn't fit … I thought about getting and swapping someone.

Seriously.... I spent a lot more than this on rebuilding a 226 head...... wow...
Even with a 19% premium.... wow

OK... as I suspected, last few seconds it shot up but still, it went for $750, I think it went way too cheap.

Sold for $750 - Stand was pretty neat too.   Probably not many hours.   Hopefully a deal will come by on something that will fit.

Barnabas, 180 engine won't work any better than a 190XT engine... same dimensions...  But it is possible to be done.+
D19 with 190 engine...

anything is possible, this engine has the Simms pump... sure would have been a honey I think if it was running.

Looks like this 19 had some real heavy inside weights in the rear wheels...

2700 bucks, 110 hp combine engine...

Yes - that's the next step.   Haven't got to it yet - but I was tempted by a higher hp engine if it was a drop in and cheap. D19 was in great shape until it didn't start one spring. I'm not sure why everyone is saying the 180 gas engine with the same displacement won't work, but I trust you guys.

The 180 engine (gas or diesel) has the hydraulic pump driven off the front timing gear - there is no room for it in the D19 frame.  Basically, the bottom end of the 301 engine is wider than the 262.  Having the steering shaft running along the inside frame rail of the D19 is another limiting factor.  180s had fully hydrostatic power steering - no steering shaft interfere with anything.

You are not the first person to suggest this swap.  It has been discussed many times here over the years.  It just can't be done without major surgery.

DWeries4 - that makes sense. It's been a long time since I've been on the site.   Was here a lot when I got started. Kids grew up and moved out, sold the horses, and now the tractors suffer more from neglect than use.   Need to fix up, probably to sell this time.

JC (WI)   I'd like to see how they did the power steering on that tractor. There's not enough room for the steering cylinder to clear the engine on the right side, so how did they do it ??   Looking closer, it appears to have a 190 front axle with the steering cylinder inside the axle frame, so there must be an orbitrol connected to the steering wheel.

Dr. Allis, if you look real close, I believe they used the 190 frame in it up to the radiator shroud and used the D19 frame forward. They used the 190 front axle assembly and D19 front casting.  And you can see the hydraulic hoses by the starter coming down  for the steer cylinder.  Does look good in the picture.
Wonder if they had used the D19 elbow or the origional 190 turbo elbow.

D-19 has a 262, 180 gas has a 265.  The 265 (2500)is the same engine family as the 301(2800 or 2900).
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
