The other post has me thinking.
Were there signs on the other factory buildings like this ?
Anybody know the story on how Gilbert Vust aquired this sign ?
I have seen pictures of an older sign that was at Laporte, did it survive ?
I understand the walkway was taken down in West Allis. Did anybody save it ?

Gilbert purchased his from another collector at Hutchinson. There is a sign on one of the buildings in Hutchinson that was on one of the factories, I'm not sure which one. As far as LaPorte I dont know what happened to the signs there. I do have a part of a brick that I "borrowed" when I was there about ten years ago! lol

The -walkway - was an old crane set up from inside the factory, it was taken down and was to be used inside a shopping center in West Allis as another walkway ; dont know if it ever happened but thats some info that was on here few years ago; I always wonder what happened to the equipment , cranes, etc from inside the AC plant in West Allis ? That stuff was huge , prolly all scrapped , the very bitter end to such a one time great company !!!! Whats left in West ALLIS of ALLIS CHALMERS ??? Anything ? Is it worth driving from Mo to see it ?

If you go to Google maps (satellite) and type in "market square shopping centre, west allis, milwaukee" that will show some of the remaining buildings. Of course we don't know when the images were taken but at a guess, within the last 3 years. The tractor parade at the Union Grove GOTO drove through part of the existing factory buildings. |
