I recently purchased two Allis Chalmers 170 diesels and have a few questions.  First off, what oil do I use to service?  The manual just says SAE-10W, but haven't had any luck finding just 10w without a 30 or 40 after it.  Also what hydraulic oil should I Use?  The manual says Allis 322 with an A for ATF, but is that just Automatic Transmission Fluid?  Same question about Trans Fluid in tractor, what type?  I have a couple of the cylinders that need repacking as well, but thought about just replacing the whole thing. What cylinder measurements will work for exact replacement?  Thanks in advance.

A 15w40 diesel engine oil should be used in these tractors,or if it doesn't get below 20 degrees,30 weight diesel engine oil is ok. Transmission and hydraulic needs allis chalmers #821 transmission oil,or any equivalent power fluid.

yes, use 15w-40 in the engines. For the transmission and rear end use the Allis hydraulic fluid. You can use another brand if you drain and refill. I have John Deere Hy-Guard in my 185. You can use other generic fluid as well as long as you lookup he specs and it mathces the Allis #821 specs.

Don't forget to change the final drive oil too. It's usually forgotten. Refill with either 80-90 gear oil or hyd fluid.

There is no off the shelf cylinder that will fit.  Just get your existing cylinders repacked.  It's cheaper anyway.  A local hydraulic shop can do it if you can't.
