Are you going to make a trip up to South Sioux City to see the leaning grain elevator that blew up a couple days ago?

According to the news report, one man was seriously burned and is in Lincoln receiving treatment. Another had minor injuries. I guess it is still standing after the 70MPH winds Friday night.

yeah...i'm sure that all the people see is the big hole and now it's unsafe. bet there is more steel in that thing than what are in most of the bridges we use everyday! all that concrete does is cover the ugly inside and keep water/snow outside.

According to the article, they are concerned about the building leaning and don't know how bad the inside is. Seems like a perfect job for a drone to check it out. I don't think I's want to climb into the place! "They're concerned of course with what you can see, but they're really
concerned about what the pressure wave did to the rest of the building,"
he said. "They want to know what maybe breaches the integrity of the
building that we can't see." Looking at the pictures of it, I don't see much steel in the walls but there probably is a bunch in the corners as they didn't blow out. Still, I wouldn't want to live within a couple hundred feet of it! Edited by JohnCO - 05 Jun 2018 at 12:46am |

there's one of them type elevators not far from me, we was camping one week with the nephews, and the campground was about 2 blocks away from that elevator, we had about enough of the next door campers loud party'in (mainly cuz they didn't invite us) anyways, it was pretty hot outside and I was trying to figger out how I could ruin their party! I remembered a 5 gallon bucket of corn in the back of my pickup, brought it out and poured a bunch on the camp fire. it really STUNK! and it drifted over to their campsite. pretty soon they all went inside their camper and it quieted down! well that corn smoldered all night long, then the wind shifted some and the stink and smoke drifted over to that elevator! we woke up to hearing lots of sirens, looked out and saw the first fire truck arriving at the elevator. I quickly went out and dosed the fire pit as I could see a hint of the smoke coming from it and going to that elevator. they must know what burning corn smells like! they hunted all over that elevator trying to find that possible fire! whew! they dun emptied the fire stations out on that one! I was also I one of them elevator type buildings over in IA one day. wow...you can't imagine everything they can do inside them enclosed ones. and they was built when steel was steel! and with lots of it. i'm sure if it's tilting tho it prolly should come down. it prolly would throw everything off kilter inside from working properly.
