i finally got the 45 motor together and in the tractor...all buttoned up and running....runs beautiful and oil pressure is perfect.....before i took it apart....my throttle lever worked good...had tension and held where i put it...now since reassembly..if i bump the throttle just off of idle it snaps to higher throttle..not full throttle but probably mid throttle...the engine doesn't race..it's responsive to throttle movement and will idle right down...i took pictures before disassembly and everything is back the way it was...anyone have any clues?

Check your governors! It doesn't sound like a complete meltdown but it may be the start of one

Did you get the throttle return spring out of place during all this? The linkage is totlally different between P/S tractors and standard but they both use one to work against governor.Without it,it will go to full throttle on it's own just off idle.

it's a standard tractor with char-lynn PS....i plowed with it last night..everything works ok in the gov, but the linkages must be out of adjustment...just acts funny once in a while..hard to describe....i will really have to look hard at it this afternoon....i put new linkages in off of a different tractor since mine on the right side attatched to the bell crank were almost worn through at the governor arm and at the throttle half moon under the steering arm....i replaced them and measured the old ones and adjusted the new ones to match...i made sure to hook everything including the spring up the way it was before disassembly....i took pictures to reference

Check to see if the link from carb to governor cross arm isn't rubbing against the block. Are you sure the spring under the gas tank is connected right? The adjustment for syncronizing the carb to governor is to make sure the link from carb to cross arm is about 0" to 1/16" too long when the throttle lever is wide open and the carb throttle butterfly is held wide open. To adjust you have to bend the governor cross arm. Supposed to use a special tool for that or you could hurt the internals of the governor. Easy to make one.
