I had noticed, for several days now, this white and orange lawnmower or garden tractor, however you want to say it, sitting in the corner of someones yard. Every time that I would drive by there I would glance over at it and try to figure out a little more about it. I could not slow down much or stop because it happened to be off of London Kentucky's more traveled highways but I had drove by there enough to notice the following things about it. First off it was a AC brand mower. Secondly, from what I can tell it looks perfect. I mean the paint is not faded in the least, the decals still look new, the body and mowing deck are all in amazing shape with no visible dents or places where the paint is missing, and if you look hard enough you can even see the text on the back of the seat that says "Allis-Chalmers." The thing that kills me is that they have a big new, maybe John Deere, riding mower and have left the poor Allis sitting over there where it had last been parked with no visible plans of doing anything with it. The worst part though, is that now the mower has weeds growing up around it that are as tall if not taller than it is, and now when they mowed you can see where they cut around the AC leaving a big weed covered spot whith a lawnmower in it in the middle of their yard. The thing that I dont understand is why do people take a perfectly good machine and instead of selling it they park it and let the weeds take it over that way no one could never get any use out of it. This is far from the only thing that I have seen like that. It is unimaginable how many old dozers, Mustangs, pickups, and pieces in general I have seen sitting in 4 or 5 foot weeds. Another story like this that really bothers me is about this guy who has 2 1970 Plymouth AAR Hemi Barracudas that he has no plans of doing anything with and absolutely refuses to sell either one of them. That kind of thing just really grinds my gears.

Sure the owner thinks it is worth $$$, no matter what they are offered it is not enough, and it will just rust away. It seems to happen a lot. Kinda sad.

I just picked up my second Simplicity, by Allis Chalmers, a model 6216 priced right, and the PO even delivered it. He found out I had a 516 and want his to go to someone that knows something about them. They both have the orange and whit paint that looks the same on them.
The photo is the one I have had, my camera is out of order at this time but the 6216 looks a lot better, but does need some work on/in the transmission.

Just sold a Green Du/ Allis 616 to friend in TX. Hydro unit and I just put a 18 HP B&S in it .
Modifyed the mower lift lever though so have long lever to raise mower instead of the little lever .
Then on the things setting have my 65 442 Convert in garrage , 7 bikes in shop to fix, and 8 or 10 more in shed to get to shop. And the list keeps growing. Edited by Coke-in-MN - 16 Aug 2010 at 9:23pm |

Well I have not asked because if I did I would probably go crazy trying to find a way to get it. On top of that I have so many tractors and other toys that need attention that another might kill someone. I have some pictures of my fleet so far.
My 1937 WC almost ready to paint but the seal in pto went out and I didnt know it now tranny is stuck and I hope to it get free in time for the Renfro Valley show.
1948 Oliver 70 needs carb cleaned but other than that is ready to go.
1941 WC as you can tell it needs alot of TLC.
Wheel Horse 877 hydrostatic. Cool but needs generator work.
Ford 4610 II SU
John Deere 2440 extremely rare has the factory installed front end that went under the the 80-100hp tractors.
John Deere 350C all origional and stock everything.
John Deere 4030 (no pic)
I know you guys probably think Im a traitor for having the Deeres but other than the paint they are amazing tractors.

I like how those Fords look of that era. I also love the look of those Olivers with the red trim.

Your story reminds me of a story of my own.
I used to travel down a county highway and an ultralight sitting in a field always caught my eye. One day I stopped to look at it.
It was in fairly decent shape and didn't look like it had been used much. The engine and propeller were intact and the only thing wrong is the throttle cable wasn't connected to the carburetor. But, day by day, I would drive by it and it never moved. The weeds grew up around it and seemed like it was abandoned forever.
This went on for about a year and I finally looked up on a plat book who owned the land. I looked in the phone book and gave the guy a call. I mentioned about the ultralight and he immediately knew what I was talking about.
"No, no, no. I would never sell it," he said.
I thought it was sad that such a nice machine sat there and went to pieces because he didn't want to use it and he didn't want anyone else to have it.
About three weeks after I called him, we had a wind storm. The next time I went down the road, the ultralight had been tossed halfway across the field and was a twisted mess. I'm sure it wasn't repairable because all the aluminum was badly kinked and wrenched.
A couple weeks later, it was gone.
The only thing I could think of is that it was a shame. He didn't want to use it and he didn't want anyone else to have it.
