I need to replace the crankshaft pulley on my B. Unfortunately, the set screw and lock nut are perfectly aligned with the nose weight plate. I can't reach the screw or nut without taking the plate off.
Dumb question: I don't have a service manual yet. which comes out first- the set screw or the lock nut? I need to remove the front axle from the nose weight plate. I figure I might as well replace the bushings in front and, and replace the wheel bearing assemblies in the front while I'm at it. Another question: Do I need to remove the grease points to disassemble the front end? This is turning out to be a chore for just the crankshaft pulley. I'm also going to replace the radiator, water pump, thermostat, and temperature gauge since it's all apart anyway. |

Seems like if the lock nut actually had the setscrew locked you might have a problem removing the screw first.

The iron below the water pump inlet with the rag for a plug is what's giving me trouble. I'm calling that a nose weight plate, but I'm not shocked if I'm wrong. I currently have the fan, and adjustable pulley removed, but the crankshaft pulley nut faces that piece of curved iron just so, that I can't get it off without disassembling the front end so I can remove the rest of the pieces under the radiator mount.

terminology I guess! You be talking about the pivot plate the has the pivot bolt welded in that is held in with four studs into the engine block. You will want to remove it for what you are doing. Not if you were just removing the axle.

I got the newsed pulley on. Dropping/reinstalling the front end wasn't as bad as I thought. Everything went back together nicely. Now all she needs is a cleaning. The first antique car and tractor show near me in on May 5th. from what I've heard, I should be the only orange there.
