I have a 1969 220 serial #1038. It was the 34th off the line. What color should the air stack be? Orange or Black? It is black but it may have been painted. Thanks for the help

seems to me most 220's I've seen in original clothes had orange pre-cleaner stacks. The 210, and 190's did have black air stacks though.

Ok Thank you. The tractor paint is original but the hood shroud and steering column have been painted black. The air stack appears to be original paint (black)

I've seen several orange and several black. I was wondering if there was a year or serial number where they went from orange to black or vise versa

I think from the stories that I have heard is they were black from the factory...if it was a dealer installed precleaner assemble added later and ordered through ALLIS-CHALMERS parts it came painted orange.

Early D21 brochures show a black air cleaner extension. So does my
190XT Series III brochure and my 210 brochure. My brother's 1970
original paint 190XT Series III Landhandler is black. So is his 1971 XT.
I don't think I have ever seen an orange one except on repaints at
shows.
I did some looking and found a J and L video titled "1969 Allis Chalmers Dealer Movie Challenge Of Change" and I saw a 180 with a black air cleaner extension and later a 160 with an orange one, though the 160 is foreign built. I'd say out of the box, the 220 when equipped, came with a black extension. |

If I remember correctly those stacks were what were called a machine item, not a parts item. They were called machine item because it was a complete kit, parts had to order each part to make a complete unit
