I just saved a diamond in the rough from recycling. I had one of these in the past it was a really neat and nostalgic Machine with a 6 cylinder diesel turbo.
Now the reason she was parked was diesel fuel in the engine oil but I'm starting to think it could have been transmission fluid. My plan is to pull the pan and see what's getting in there. Anybody have any ideas? |

These used a Stanadyne Inj Pump which is NOTORIOUS for fuel/oil dilution, there is limited access for any trans oil to make it to the engine as the coolers are separate on the block, possibly into coolant but not so much to engine oil.
Wish Mine had been a G-B, parts are a TAD bit easier to find. |

Verify it has the same style inj pump as noted, if does and fuel in oil then time for the seals. Been sitting a LONG time, will be time to drain and clear screens, drain fuel tank and start over with clean fluids.

Congratulation and welcome to the forum cannon collector. Nice looking tractor. Looking forward to seeing more on your new baby and getting any issues sorted out. As a novice I read most all posts as they all contain some good information and problem solving methods.
Good luck. |

Well sure enough the seal on the pump side was torn and the one on the oil side was not looking good either so the seals are done and I did run the engine it seems to run okay once it warmed up, exhaust manifold and turbo is off getting welding up rust holes if he can do it. I don't think there's any manifold for that on the market right now

If you ever drop the pans look for snakes. I am on the edge of rattlesnake territory here. I always took a big hammer and gave my pans a big ol whack or 2. If they are in there they will rattle at you. Experience speaking here.

Here we have copper heads and cotton mouths that love to turn machines in to there homes. We were digging dirt off the river one time in the early summer .snakes was everyware .they would even lay up on the tracks to sun .

Use 2 cable come along from one track to other down under the pan. Worked better than I hoped when helping uncle with his HD 21 and FA 31 over the years.

I throw down a piece of plywood, then use a floor jack when working outside. Lots of guys use straps under the pan and use a crane to lift and lower it. Be careful- a former co-worker of mine was killed by a D9 belly pan.

A transmission jack works great to lower and replace a pan, if you have one or can borrow one.

Another good idea John.
Thank you. I think a flood jack, on a sheet of plywood is my best bet to take off pan. Then a couple of cargo straps under the pan and attached to the tracks to get pan back up high enough to get jack back under it to put back on. |

Flood or floor jack, 2d best way to do it, just harder to balance.

I used some 3/4" OSB and a regular auto floor jack. Made a saddle X member to sit on the normal saddle to support the weight better from some scrap 2" channel steel, just tack welded it to the floor jack saddle until was done then ground off the tacks.

Some good info on pan removal, I usually use a floor Jack. Taking this one off I got the bolts from the sides, A.C. seems to use some fine thread here and there so it was slow going! Uggg!, after the bols were out I had to give it a gentle pry it was stuck on filled with crudd!.

Not to many treacherous snake problems here, but mice on the hand!, so i started it up to drive off the trailer, and lordy thank God the trans was feeling great and even the steering clutches feeling great!, but I'm looking hydraulic bucket control because the main hard hydraulic tubes were rusted out dues to large mouse colony,
