I took a few shots of my 170 while the loader was off and the weights were back on, looks so much better with the weights. I took all of the loader cylinders in to be fixed. I told them to fix them whatever needs fixing (seals, shafts, we''ll see). They said they would call me and let me know where we're at. I hate oil leaks so I'm try to fix them all. Just did the pto seal and O ring and I need to do the oil pan gasket as well.
I wish the paint, decals, fenders and grille were just a little bit better but it's not bad. tractor had a very ugly cabette/heater houser on it when we bought it and that left several holes in the fenders. Looks like it must have had tire chains on it as well at one time, the right fender is slightly bent like something rode around the tire while hooked in the chains. I don't know what you're complaining about Claus. I don't have one tractor that looks half as nice as your 170 does. Nice tractor!! |

Chuck, don't get me wrong, I love my tractor. I guess I have a part of me that is never satisfied, my Dad always reminds me if I had it repainted and all "parade pretty" I wouldn't want to use it for anything and what good is that?

Yep - looks mighty good from here in Massachusetts! But I know what you mean about oil leaks - I hate 'em! Tough thing with older iron. My buddy used to kit me a lot about it - and then help me fix the leaks!!

Looks great!
Let me know how hard a job it is to replace the pan gasket when you do it. That's one I need to do also on my one-seventy.

That's one thing I was overly impressed with on the D17 series 4 that I picked up is that the engine doesn't leak. Now the hydraulics are another thing. I would say keep that one just the way it is. they are only original once. My d17 is going to get the wheels and grill cover painted and the rest is going to get waxed and cleaned up and whatever it looks like, it is going to stay that way. |

Chuck I like original condition tractors as well. Here is a photo of my late Grandfather's 1964 D17 Series III, I sold it when I bought the 170. It had to work for a living but Grandpa always kept it inside and took good care of it.

Sorry, no. It looked pretty much like it does, without the loader, had any ugly cabette or heater houser on it. The cream needed painting and it had a rusty muffler on it. Here is a few older pics.

A yellow Frontier? I take it that box scraper is older? most are John Deere green.
Sounds a lot like my WD45, ugly heat houser (well, in the colder months), whole thing needs painting, and a rusty muffeler lol.

I believe the reason the Frontier box blade is yellow is because it is commercial/industrial. It is 4 years old and you can still buy it and that model is still yellow.
The heat houser thing had a fiberglass roof, we thought it was aftermarket. I sold it on this forum for $50.00, the day the guy came to pick it up we unfolded the nylon sides and it had large AC emblems on it. |
