I just looked at a WD that was for sale near me and the belt pulley had a lever to engage it that was separate from the PTO. I thought you had to engage the PTO to start the belt pulley. The lever was attached to the steering column support and had three notches in it about a 1/2" apart. I have never seen this setup before and was hoping someone could enlighten me about it. It is an after-market shift mechanism. You would normally loosen a set screw and lock-nut then shift the pulley in or out as needed. This mechanism alllows you to do it from the seat!
Kindova neat feature, and I wish I had one!

If you're a hobby farmer with maybe a half dozen head of beef it's nice to have an old hammermill. Those were belt driven. I never engaged the pulley until it was set, so it was no big deal to get off the tractor. It was kind of a kludge to go from one side of the tractor to the other to lock and unlock the clutch holder, though.

Do you go to tractor shows? The weekend of September 16 & 17 we had a belt driven stationary corn sheller plus a threshing machine in use. We also have a Baker fan that runs off a tractor's belt pulley.

I went to the GOTO in Ottawa, KS Sept. 15, but had to leave before I could see everything. Lots of cool tractors and friendly people.

Hi Rusty. Look at LittleMarv's post about his recently acquired accessory. A front mounted buzz saw. I have one and we used my 45 to run our hammermill when I was a kid at home on the farm. Wish now that I had bought that at our farm sale or spoke for it before the sale.
BTW, I was born and raised and graduated(1975) down at Carthage. You and/or your family may have heard of my dad, Alan, as he was a Funk's G seed dealer and distributor back in the day.

I also have a front mount buzz saw for my D17 that folds up againest the raditor for transport.
Is also the cats meow to start other tractors with a belt pully all by your self your working on. I block the rear wheels and lock the brakes on the tractor to be started. Run the D 17 in line place the belt on the pulleys in a figure 8, Back thre D 17 up till the belt is tight and lock the brakes.
Get the belt a going to make sure I have it lined up properly, go back to the tractor I am wanting started remove thr clutch pedal lock I made and slowly let the clutch out and the engine starts to turn and many time will fire right up.
As fast as towing but doing it alone.

Here's a belt pulley in use. Spent all last Sunday running the threshing machine with the '28 Allis.
