Hello group.
Question I have is regarding adding headlights. My HD16DC is getting cleaned up and brought back to specs. My 16 has the headlight covers in the front grill. Are they difficult to put lights in? Wiring and brackets source? Thank you |

Just remember this is 24V start/charge as well. The charging system has to be functional to utilize lights.

Thank you. You are correct and I did not take into consideration the 24 volt aspect of the system. |

You can run 12 volt lights if you tap into one of the two batteries. I'm adding lights, a cab fan and radio to mine.

Glad you jumped in on this doctorcory. That saved me from making that my next question. I was thinking same thing. The parts manual shows it tied in at the dash light switch along with a rear floodlight option. I will cut in both. I have full instruments and dash light on my 16. Thank you.

Careful with that as you run the risk of bypassing the cutoff switch, could end up with One dead battery where get low voltage and cook the starter.

Thank you DMiller.
My 16 does not have the original battery cut off switch. One of the previous owners, I suspect the last owner did it. As another topic, should I replace that battery cut off switch? Currently batteries are wired to each other without that cut off switch. I was curious about that. |

I replaced mine as that gave me a positive cutoff should I get a short in a cable or starter hangs in. There is only one other alternative, hacking a cable to stop destruction in that type event, also slows anyone wanting to 'joyride'.

Good Idea. The previous owner upon my first inspection of the machine, when I asked where the cut off was he said he took it out but could not recall why. Never put it back in. His hack was to switch out the battery cable and battery to a top post bolt screw and not a traditional battery cable clamp. he would disconnect the + cable end on the one battery to be sure to eliminate any shorts or draws on the battery. I want, when completed, to have a original machine with all parts repaired and replaced. The battery cable ends are junk anyway and all rusted and need to be replaced regardless. |
