My auction bought post hole auger took a krap.
On the fifth hole. I took it apart the other day. The cast gearbox has a cracked bearing mount thingy - I don't believe it is curable. Someone a week or two ago showed a pic of a similar one except a SC model. Someone wrote in it was sold by Tractor Supply in the 60s.
I cannot find a name on this box or anywhere, whoever made it isn't very proud of it. If anyone has a parts unit they would sell or know of anyone that has parts or any other info please lemme know.
cheers,
Creek

I have 3 of them in Ohio, I think. They look close but have the old style lift.

R Aiken,
Any chance you could measure the length of the handle? Mine is missing the handle. I am still looking for what type of lower mounting brackets that are used for the CA. Thanks, Mike

Post a picture of the cracked 'bearing mount thingy'... did it tear teeth off the gears, or just spin the bearing?

Dave -
Teeth okay - strangely enough, the pinion and ring gear look cast. I never thought something like that would be cast, but it sure looks that way. They both look okay.
The bearings are okay as well, there is sort of "tab" that hangs down inside the box that carries the nose of the input shaft, supports the bearing. That is what broke.
R Aiken - would you be inclined to sell parts?
cheers,
Creek

Well, post a picture of the thing, showing the broken tab... if there's a way to correct it, I'll bet someone (perhaps me) will be able to do it...

When I get home tonight I will take some pics of the broken part and some measurements and we will see what happens!
Thanks and cheers,

Here are pics of the broken parts and a view inside the box. You can see the tab thingy that used to hold the nose bearing for the pinion. I think what may have happened is the little cylinder thing might be part of a pin holding the ring gear to the shaft - it sheared and got in between the pinion and ring gears and something had to give.
cheers
