I'd want one of those just to have an L4! I tell a lot of people down here about them, but most guys scoff and say I've lost it, that there is no such thing as an L4!

There was an L4 for sale near here a few years ago. Basically a Mexican built Cummins powered L3.

I think they have heavier sheet metal and some heavier drives over the L3 if I remember correctly.

And the parts are metric, and do not interchange with the L3.

So what company built them? It wasn't Allis Chalmers any more by that time and they weren't built by Deutz Allis or AGCO. Did some company just copy the L3 and start making them in Mexico?

That's the story as I understand it. Darold Swenson worked around Gleaner and had them built at the A-C Mexico plant, and when Deutz caught wind, they shut them down quickly. I don't know if he's still around or not, but it would be neat to talk to the mastermind behind the project! I'm also curious as to how many were made/imported. I heard there were only about 10 made, and most were shipped to the Dakotas and Canada, but I don't know for sure. Here's a link to a discussion about it on the combine forum.
