Does anyone know where a good base setting would be for injection pump timing on a 7060 with dm4631 pump bigger injectors, and turbo? Going off of the manual, we went with 20 ° seemed to smoke too much had a hard time getting turbo lit, did ok at pulls, I set to 23° tonight, seems more responsive, less smoke.   Can anyone give me a yay or nay on weather I am doing the right thing?   Thanks, mike.

need a lot more info to get a real answer = how many cc's what size injectors, and especially a 'bigger turbo' which is probably the issue..

Well if I remember correctly, the pump was set at 100 % which was around 200 cc's of fuel, the injectors were stock nozzles machined 25% larger, that is all they told me, and running 3lm turbo.

Is the advance mechanism functioning or locked out??   Still functioning I'd say stock timing 16 to 18 degrees. If locked out, I'd say 34 to 36 degrees. Like Tbran said....not enough info.

I'd sure think the pump builder would have told you where to start with timing tuning. 
As said above, the timing setting is very much dependent upon how the advance in the pump is set up, and the roller setting in the pump too. Good luck!

Advance is still installed, rollers are set as far as they could be shimmed, injectors were set at 2800 psi I believe, I don't know if I should go with the stock setting of the tractor with a 29 pump at 18° or the setting of the 31 pump on a 7080 at 22°.

The advance will always be installed. It's a matter of whether it is still functioning or locked in the retard position.  Your pump man should have told you where to start at for timing. How big are the injectors??  200 cc's isn't all that much.

Advance is functioning normally, I don't really know how much the injectors flow, all they told me was they would cut them 25% bigger then stock, I am only running farm stock classes so just trying too keep up with the red and blue ones.

If the advance is working as it should and he hasn't remarked the front timing line, I'd set it to whatever stock is.

And if you don't have a 40 psi boost gauge to look at, you are losing good information without it. Depending on what turbo?? (you didn't say) I'd expect 25 psi??  from a stock turbo @ 200 cc's...........

3LM pulling turbo, I would suspect its close to 40 psi.

Well, you know what??? you HAVE NO IDEA what it's making without a gauge!!! You could have an air leak somewhere and injection pump timing has an effect on boost also.  With only 200 cc's I would not expect 40 psi from a 3LM.

The big reason we keep asking about the advance is, the 7030/50 had around 5* pump advance, the 7040/60 had 10*, and the 7080/7580 had a speed advance along with the addition of the light load advance, which adds even more timing advance with light loads. So, to pose a question of where to time a DM pump that someone modified, is really an impossible question to correctly answer. Your pump builder is the only one who can honestly give you a place to start.

My d 21 has a 450 roosa master with the big lines and Lazered injectors. Fuel pressure is 120 lbs and boost is at 44 lbs. Timing on the engine is at 36 degrees we think. Has a different cam shafts and the timing on it has been changed. This is a stock 3lm with a 2.30 intake and tractor is set at 3000 rpms. One of these days I'm gonna take that engine apart and see what's in it.
The mechanic that last had it apart said it had ceramic coated pistons and an odd camshaft part number. He set everything back together just like he found it.
Ed Hart was the original owner and in 66 it won the m&w 12,ooo lb championship.
Ed sold it to someone in southern Indiana area.
If anybody would know anything else about this tractor I would appreciate the info
