    Posted: 26 Jun 2017 at 7:19pm
This morning was going to bush hog some acreage. The fuel tank was below half so I topped it off and started. After about 30 minutes it lost power and would not run over 1600 rpms. I took it to barn, changed fuel filter. No help. Drained about 3 gallon from fuel tank, no water, pretty red fuel. Disconnected fuel line at filter and blew air back thru tank. No help. Runs smooth at 1600 rpms for about 3 minutes then starts running rough for a little while then quits. Is the fuel pump built into the injector pump? Could the injector pump be the problem???? Thanks in advance for the help!!

Dads 6060 did nearly the same thing. Surging and also puffing white smoke. Had the pump rebuilt and it resolved the problem.

Is there a link that tells how to make sure it's timed before removal of the pump or can someone tell me how to do it?

simply take the timing cover off the pump by the nametag, turn the engine by hand until the 2 lines match up with each other. Then it's just a matter of disconnecting lines and linkage, and the wire. Shaft can stay in the engine. Upon re-installation, look at where the engine is positioned, so you can correct any minor timing errors. It may have been off a degree or 2.

The shaft, timing gear, spring and thrust button have to come out the front before removal. They are behind the inspection plate below the alternator. Make sure to mark drive gear teeth before removing it. Just did one a month ago.

Picked it up from the re-builder this afternoon. He said that the flex ring was the problem and that I should blow out the return line with air before reinstalling the pump. Should get it installed tomorrow morning!!!

Once you get it all bolted up,back engine up 1/4-1/2 turn then rotate fwd till correct degrees at pointer, then see if marks in pump are in line.May need a tweak.

How did she run? We also noticed a little more power after the pump rebuild. The power in my XT was even more drastic, turned it into a totally different tractor. Obviously for the best.

It runs great!! I thought more power, then I thought just my imagination. But maybe it was. I was pulling 10' bush hog in some really heavy grass and weeds.

Trying to kill him? Seen it too many times folks stop being active they go downhill fast. I'm not the only to make that observation.

I'll second that observation.

I get so pissed at my sister and my niece telling my dad he needs to stop doing stuff.  My niece, his granddaughter, literally replies with "what good are you going to do trying to do that?!"  Pretty soon, you here him saying, "I'm not much good anymore."  Breaks my heart.  I try to do things I think he could get hurt at or hinder me unnecessarily quietly by myself...if he offers, I usually let him, or if he says "I could have helped you", I'll say I thought you were busy with something else.  I hate to see him in severe pain as much as the rest of the family.  But have him truly stop doing everything, then see what happens!
