I've heard lots of good comments on the 303. From what I've been told A-C was late to the square bale dance and many A-C dealers also sold New Holland balers.

303 is a great little baler. Not as fast as the newer balers, but in it's day, it could hold it's own. I have two of them. The only weak point is the shaft at the gathering hands gearbox. HTH Tracy

The Allis square balers have a lot of similarities to the New Hollands Knotters are the same. Haven't heard much negative about Allis balers, but haven't heard that they are over the top fantastic either. Got a friend that still bales up a bunch of hay every year with one. Did hear a good story about Allis balers a while back from a guy, though. He said that as a kid, his Dad and his uncle always put up hay together in small squares, and him and his cousins had to haul them. In his first memories of the venture, John Deere balers were used, and this guy said that him and his cousins spent more time goofing off than they did throwing bales, because their Dad's were always working on the balers. Then when the Dad's came home with two new Allis balers, the goofing off was over. Darrel

They are a pretty decent baler but if you want a baler that you can get parts for then forget the AC.

Parts can be an issue, but with that being said the only trouble I've had in the passed 17 years is with the slip clutch and pickup cam. The clutch parts are still available but the cam was not. I had the cam fixed at a local machine shop. Last I checked most of the knotter parts are still available. I do have a parts baler standing by if I ever need a part that's no longer available.
Whatever you get just maintain it and be smart when using and you shouldn't have many issues. |
