Dad has owned this F2 for 9 years and has always had a charging issue. After 5-6 hours of operation, the battery gauge falls from the upper green to finally the upper red of lower end of gauge. Alternator was rebuilt last fall by a reputable shop and helped for a day. I personally have blown the alternator out with air(was amazed how much crap came out) yet the declining voltage persists. Pretty sure gauge is accurate because after dark, with lights on(work and headlights both)gauge drops faster and the lights get dimmer. On a side note, does any one have experience with Shoup's chopper knives? Ours have already been turned over and are very rounded on the ends. Thanks

I'd bet wire connection issues on the charging. My F2 had some wires that wire no longer making good contact in the factory crimped ends. Too much resistance, getting hot and killing fuses.Think I got my knives at AGCO.Shoup's are probably just as good...these days.

Check all connections from alternator to solenoid on console door. If all is good, replace solenoid on console door. MACK

You may have missed the solenoid issue a few months ago. When you replace the solenoid be sure it is rated for continuous duty. It will cost more, but don't be tempted to go cheap with this part.

Yup. You can try an auto parts store and ask for a 50 or 80 AMP continuous duty relay and see how they price it. Take the old one in so you can get one with the same frame. A true continuous duty relay will not get hot after hours of use. This issue came up in here last fall. Someone along the line there bought a cheaper non-continuous duty part and the problem persisted. Edited by DougS - 26 Jun 2017 at 7:04pm |
