I have a D17 that started missing & running ruff so I replaced the inline gas filter & cleaned out the sediment bowl. That did not help, so I took the distributor cap off & the distributor was full of oil. I soaked all the oil out, but it seemed to keep seeping in. The tractor ran OK for awhile, but started missing again. Is there an easy fix to keep the oil from getting into the distrobutor?

Does it have power steering and is it setup between the governor assembly and distributor? If so,the inner seal between the distributor and the power steering unit is bad and is allowing the oil to fill up inside of the distributor. Get yourself a manual and replace the seal.  Rick

Thanks. I`m not real familiar with it as I have not had it too long, but it has what might be  power steering next to the distributor. Do I have to pull the distributor out to replace the seal? I bought a shop manual today, but have not have had time to look at it yet.

Just read the manual closely...it's pretty clear on what needs to be done to install the new seal really. You need to pull the distributor and then take the whole governor assembly/power steering unit off the tractor. Hope this helps.  Rick
