Well I got the balloon up for the 2nd time this year Saturday evening at my farm in Pilot Grove, MO.  Flew off the cut hayfield behind the house.  Took up my son Lucas and a friend of my farming partner.  We got about 4 miles in 45 minutes.  With 2 passengers and warm temps I landed a little early as beyond my landing spot was nothing but trees and crops and I go through fuel faster when it's warmer.  

I drove my two D17's and my 180 down to take some pics after takeoff.  The D17 Series III that I got back this spring has my new to me 172 mower behind it courtesy Michael Crowe...works great!  The 180 has a FMC 7X7 3 point mounted brush hog.  The Series IV was all by itself.  It was a great flight and a good weekend at the farm!  Mike

Pilot Grove, MO:



View of most of the farm.  Beans in my NW bottom are in the long field, solid green in the lower right.  Across the creek in the North bottom is Corn, center left of pic with hay field on the hill to the left.  Wet spots were replanted with 90 corn but there are still skips :-(  Across and back from that next the the launch site is the south bottom that had wheat with double crop beans in it now.  Pasture, old silo & hay barn on the right of the pic.  More beans on a hill top sort of center right...unfortunately my partner's cows got into them and mowed them off.  They were planted the same day as the other early beans...you can see the field is barely green.

I-70 looking east toward Boonville, MO.  We landed off Hwy M just North of I-70.

OK Mike, I knew your tractors where camera hogs but they are getting out of hand now! lol  Nice shots of your farm!
If you'd called I'd come over and helped get you in the air old buddy.
My corn is in the same shape too.

Interesting, i guess i never realized it would take more fuel when its hot out, but thinking about it, i guess it it makes perfect sense. The air in the ballon has to be that much hotter.

Mike, The pics look great! I especially like the pic of Pilot Grove...it would make a nice calendar pic! The countryside probably looks super from the air,I'm just too darn afraid of heights or I would go up with you. LOL!
 
Don,  Isn't he forgetting one of his tractors in that tractor pic? I never seen the WD45. What's up with that,Mike...ol' buddy? LMAO!  Rick

Rick,
for some reason, fear of heights often does not apply in ballooning. My loving bride has a healthy fear of heights, but I convinced her to do a balloon ride with me and she had a ball. She said for some reason it was different. This is the same woman that slides down in her seat crossing a high bridge! I highly recommend it!

Lou - my wife has the same fear of heights and it's exactly as you said, she is okay with going up in the balloon and loves it....she just hasn't been up in a few years. 

So Rick no excuses any more...think I need to come out again to your place and take you up and show you what you've been missing.  And as for the WD45...it's down in the "Red Barn" in the pic...still waiting for me to start work on it...every trip to the farm seems like it has 10 other things on the priority list...and I spend most of my first day mowing and getting stuff cleaned up before I can do any other projects.  But I have to get to it very soon as I need to have it ready before fall to go get my 190 picker.  Mike

Really great pictures. Thanks for sharing. Wish I could be a Dale's this year - always enjoyed watching your launch -- but things just aren't working out right. Goofy weather has got me behind, gotta do what I gotta do. Hope you have a great time at Dale's.
