Just bought my first allis after being a lifelong deere man, needed a 90hp tractor and couldn't bring myself to pay what a decent 4020 brings. My question is, it has hydraulic pto and it stays on. when I move the lever it is moving the valve but I don't feel anything happening, like no notches or anything. is it supposed to feel like this, should I feel the different locations like on and off.

There should be three poisons, on off brake.  Pin shears in lever some times.    MACK

The pto will creep in the off position when it is cold and the brake is wore out. Have you tried it warmed up with something hooked to the pto. Shut the tractor off hook up pto and see if it stops then. If it doesn't then a valve problem also at that point see if pto slips or brings pto up to speed as it should when turned on.

The console lever itself has 3 detents in it, if working correctly. Ball and spring inside console.

Finally got to work on the tractor. You guys were right ball was missing for the detent. PTO does what it should except for the brake part. It seems to pull pretty good even with it off. It won't start a load off but it will keep one coasting after you turn it off. Will there be less pull when the oil gets warm or will it stay the same.

When the oil is warm it should stop . If I hook up the manure spreader or feed grinder on a cold day I have to turn the tractor off to hook up the pto then when I start the tractor it will turn for a few minutes or when I hook up to the spreader I don't hook up the pto till I fill the spreader, by then it will stop.
