I stumbled onto a Model D, and I'm not sure how to figure out what year engine etc.
I tried searching, but I kept getting rejected for the 3 letter minimum! Now I can't load photos from my iphone6+! Too large of a file size... Pretty lame I can't get any help here!! |

You have to edit the size of your picture to shrink it down. On the left side there should be a serial# stampd on the flange where the engine bolts to the tranny/torque tube.

If you are referring to a D Grader the serial number would be on a plate riveted to the frame where you climb onto the grader. The number should start with a 'D' followed by 4 numbers. Post these numbers and someone on this site can tell you the year.

Where can I find info on fluids, capacity and types?
I've already changed the engine oil! Looking for where you fill, where the levels need to be, what weight of lube for chain boxed and the tranny! |

You haven't said what you have yet. Is it a D grader or a D series tractor?

Grille looks like the '52 D, in norm's construction book. It should have a wd 226 c.i.motor, either that or it could have a 201 from a wc if someone swapped one in. I'd take some gentle paint remover, to that aluminum tag, and use a scotch brite kitchen pad, and gently brush back the orange paint, to see if the stamped numbers are still there. Could be that some idiot sandblasted everything away, before that last orange hosing. There could also be a block number, up above the carb, on top of the block, near the VC gasket surface.

On second viewing pf the pix, it looks like a D special, with the leaning front wheels, power angle, etc. What size are the tires?

Is there an online manual to these? I'm still needing to know what kind and capacities in the fluids department!
Or is there a way to search on here without the 3 letter block kicking in? |

Looks like you have a real gem there, Turbo Texas. Looks sweet. Unfortunately, I won't be of any assistance to you on it, but be patient, and information will come. Like another said, try removing the paint from that serial number plate, and hopefully the serial number will show up. Traffic is a little slow here on the construction side of the forum, but some knowledgeable people will show up for you with the information that you need. Darrel

The wheel hubs appear to be (non-D Special) equipment. Grill is the late style grill usually used with the square tube machines.

Look for that number, on the head, it may be traceable, and may tell you if its a wd motor. If so, engine data will be the same as for a wd tractor engine, as far as specs and capacities. does it have power blade slide? If so, it is a d special, to spite what the decal by the seat says...

I'm not sure what a power slide is?
The engine oil has been changed, with a 10/30 and Lucas oil stabilizer! Now I'd like to drop the fluids in the transmission, & the two chain boxes! I would also like to replace all the hydraulic fluid out to new! Just so I know everything's right! |
