I am ready to replace the wheels on my wd. We would use this tractor much more if it had the right size tires and wheels. We did the used combine tires two times and the last set were 18.4 and it just steers too hard. My centers were good when we took them off and I suppose they still are but the powershift wheels are shot at the valve stems and probably kind of unsafe. I would take some advice on buying new rims and tires. Thanks for any input.rw

Could your original rims be repaired? I have repaired several of the spinout rims. Some of the tire shops in our area have contact with welding shops that repair rims.

I have a nice repaired 10 inch WD rim for sale. $150.00. I like the original rims. I have a set of new rims and they will not spin all the way in or out.

I've had my local fab shop fix my rusted rims. Paint them up and they look as good as new. Why throw out 100% of the rim when only 5% is rusted? |

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how the 18.4 tires would make it steer hard.

It is not the width but the height. They are so tall the drawbar is up about six or more inches. The steering bolster is not straight up and down. I think it makes the front heavier than intended and also the caster angle is different.rw

I believe new rims are about $350 each. 18.4 are too big for a straight WD. 14.9-28's would be perfect. get your quote and decide if it's better to buy new or repair the old ones.

I needed a new rim for my WD, but I really didnt want to spend the money on a new rim. I dont know any good welders to patch the rim. So I drug my feet as long as I could. I got lucky though. A local guy had an auction and I picked up a good rim and center. Paid $5 for the set.
So, maybe you can watch for local auctions. I'm kicking myself because I could have gotten a set of wheel weights for $5 as well.

You talk about the front end steering hard. Do you have 16" rims ?

I have about $20 in the rim including paint (plus the new tube). I couldn't believe I got it either. I went to purchase a parts wd just for a rim, and found a rim by itself. The parts wd ended up over my budget.
At the time, I didn't need weights. And I had no reason to buy something just to store it. Since I switched my rim, I decided not to do the CaCl again. Now I kind of wish I had the weights. This spring the other side will come off and will be cleaned and have the CaCl removed. |

I ordered new rims from OK tractor. He shipped them straight to the tire shop that had my new tires. I am very happy with new rims and tires. My original rims looked good when I removed them. After scraping the tubes off the rims and cleaning them up. There was no way I was going to repair them. The original rims lasted 50 years if these last half that long I'll be no longer care.
