Hey. I have a 54 CA and I am looking at buying another.
Problem is, the one  am looking at buying has a wide rear axle.
Before  i drive 3 hours to see it, does anyone know if it is a big deal to change the span of the rear axle? Is it a fixed length or is it something that can be taken out? Any insight would be appreiated.

I just bought a ca with the wheels spun out like that. Had to spin them in to get it onto the trailer. If the wheel lock bolts are not rusted up to bad it's not that big of a deal. If their rusted up real bad, it can be a challenge to break them loose. Ron

It the eccentrics are rusted tight (many are) it is a big deal to change the width. Could involve taking the eccentrics off and heating with a torch.

To haul if the ecentrics are rusted fast, just swap sides with the whole rim like a ford or other tractor.

Maybe I'm the lucky type but I'm on my 5th CA and have yet to have a problem with the eccentrics. Just a little time with Kroil and a long breaker bar. Also I have been successful at widening or narrowing them without a running engine. My last one I widened all the way out by hand so the calcium man could gain easy access to the stem.

The CA I have doesn't have the rims that can be offset. The one I am looking at definitly does. My CA is a bit of a freak. Its a 54 CA rear end, but from the torque tube up, its a B. The Rims are likely a B as well. Runs very well. I use it for plowing snow. The one I am looking at is own by the original owner or at least the family. Its plowed the same 100 acres since new. Great story with it. Im excited to get it.

If you decide to buy it and it won't fit your trailer, take the wheels off your present tractor along with you, swap them out and drive it on the trailer.  You'll have all the time in the world to mess with frozen eccentrics when you get it home. If the wheels are all the way out I doubt they will fit if reversed.

I'm curious, If its a plow tractor why would it be widened out? And if that tractor has plowed 100acres for 50yrs I'll bet something is worn.

Bill, The wheels were set out to cultivate. If a guy had 100 acres and a CA, he probably used the same tractor for all farm work. Once you were done plowing the 5 minute job of setting the wheels in would be done.

I have only seen pictures of it so far, my info is through a third party. Driving 3hrs this weekend to go see it. In the pics the wheels are definitly set wide and I am told the mechanism attached to it is a Tiller. Hoping to get a face to face with the owner this weekend.

Maybe I read into his earlier post when he said something about not having CA rims and I took it that means no spin outs. However to be widened out as far as he thinks it is it would almost have to.

Ooooh K Then someone should have been soaking them the last few weeks in preparation for transport. Either way I know they can be narrowed without power to the wheels.

BTW even full wide a deck over trailer can still haul it.
