WD45 stuck in reverse

I got the 54 WD45 running again tonight, and started out to take it for a short drive down the block.  It went in second and after a while I decided that was too slow, so I went to shift up to fourth.  It must have went in reverse instead.  Anyway when I tried to take it out of reverse it would not budge.  Shifter flops around, but tranny woun't comeout of reverse gear.
Any ideas?

Easy fix, if you know what to look for. You can remove just the shifter stick and manually line the forks up and replace the stick. I find it easier to remove the shift tower to align things up and reinstall the shift tower. You need pictures and I would be happy to supply them but my scanner is broke. Hopefully someone will post the pic of the forks aligned correctly for re-installing the shifter.

1pull the snap ring out that holds the shifter in 
2 get a long flat screwdriver and slide your shifting collars so they are all in neutral 
3 put your shift lever back in
your shifter got pulled out of the collars, happens every now and then just be carefull about jamming it into gear

As posted above, pull the shifter boot up on shifter. You will see a snap ring that holds the shift lever. Remove snap ring.(pair of needle nose and screwdriver works pretty well.)  Slide ring up lever towards bend in shift lever and ring will come off. Pull lever up to remove. Look into tower you will see one of the shifting collars will be out of line.  Take a long screwdriver and flip the collar back in line. Will look kind of like  [0] when back in neutral. Put shift lever back in to tower. Shifter should feel back to normal if it went back into shift collars. you should be able to wiggle it side to side and feel a little spring tension on it. Reinstall snap ring and boot.  One word of caution. A small square key is in the shift tower that the shift lever fits on. You will see the groove for it on the shift lever. Be careful not to drop the key into the tranny. Looking into tower from driver seat it is located on left side. It just slips into a hole in the tower. If problem persist a couple of things could be happening. Wear on shifter ball or key way. Both can be repaired . There is an oversize key than can be installed to help tighten shifter.

I have the same problem, I can't get the lugs to line up in a line, you said it should look like [0]....mine looks like [                                           
                                     0], and I can't get the one on left side to budge.  should the forks be able to slide up and down the shift rods or just rotate side to side on them?  My wd45 was stuck in 1st today.  Thanks alot.
