In a prior post I have had trouble getting the fork stuck between two gears . Usually a low forward gear . I am there again . In reading the information I can find it mentions two locator dowel bolts . I am finding I only have one of those and the other location is a regular bolt like the others . Could this be part of the problem ? Can I still get one somewhere ? Thank you

sorry to keep dragging this on guys , but I am stuck ! I have the top off again and trying to see my problem . The slots in the top of the forks do not appear to to be sloppy or worn . The ball tabs on the bottom of the shift lever look to be the same dimensions on both tabs . when I pulled it up the lever ball was not engaged in any of the fork slots .
It really feels like the middle rail is tight and not as smooth as the other two . maybe I am hanging it up by having to pull too hard to get out of that rail ? can I take the levers off and take that rail out and free it up with a scotchbrite pad ? How do I make sure I get the levers back on the rail in the same spot ? Sorry for all the questions . thank you

Take pictures before during teardown.Lay parts in order?Been too long since I had one apart but I think there something that locates the levers on the rails.Don't lose the detent balls(spring loaded)

There is tapered holes in rails to locate every thing on the rails . Getting The Rail out And back may be a problem if you have never taken one apart. I'm not for sure what the problem is. Is the gear shift getting between the slots on the rails, or is it not going into some gears. MACK |

It is in gear inside the transmission . a forward gear. when I use the shift lever to take it out of the forward gear the lever moves a little bit but is apparently is not engaged in the slot on the fork .
If I move the HI LO speed lever on the console it kills the engine . My belief is that gear shift is coming out of the slot on the rails before it comes out of gear in the transmission . After taking the top off I am able to slide the collars inside the transmission by hand . The square tabs on the shift lever ball do not appear to be worn or rounded . The slot in the forks does not appear to be bad . Also I clearly have no knowledge or nothing to compare to as far as proper dimensions !! I did have the reverse rail partially apart unintentionally one time . Did not have the fork off , but I moved the rail far enough for the ball to shoot the heck out . After a lot of cussing and pressure I finally the balls and springs back in . Not sure I had the best method . Shop guys can probably do in a couple of minutes . Thank you |

With top off, put the fork in 2nd gear with shifter in 2nd slot. Move back sliding gear in transmission all the way forward. Drop top back on transmission and you should be back in business. MACK
