It appears to be driven by the PTO.
Gotta wonder if it has enough power to actually do anything though? Just guessing here but, gotta think it takes 10-15 HP just to run the front axle. A good running WD45 puts out 45HP. Take away 1/3 of that, and there ain't much left for pulling implement.
All in all, it is neat looking though.

That's why it'd be perfect for the 6 cyl swap. You get some extra power and I bet since it'd be spread through the PTO and rear end you wouldn't hurt anything.

I always wondered if you could find an ac elenco kit. I know that they where made for more then the fords. I have seen some on IH. But never on an AC. I can tell you the Ford 800 serries with one of those kits make a great improvement for a loader or plow tractor.

If you take into account 15 horse for the front axle, you'd be right back to what a WD had for horsepower......

Don't think that PTO drop gear box will hold up . I had one with that gear box was blown out running 9 foot haybine in heavy clover had to replace the torque tube. Randy

Horse power is up with a G-226 like used in the D17/E Gleaner and the WC trans in front of the WD45 trans with front axle power is coming from the box coming off the back of the WC trans not the PTO box.
This is a 10 on the cool scale. 
3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep.

you have a hard time getting those 45hp to the ground anyway. that was a big gripe of farmers back then the extra hp doesnt help if the tires just slip. now this is a good way to utilize the power

My very first thought was similar to that above, with the parasitic horsepower it wouldn't help that much. But then, I think of my MFWD tractor. It isn't all that high of horsepower, I think about 70. But that's irrelevant. My experience, if you are driving in a field, relatively loose or whatever, when you turn the FWA on, the engine actually picks up, in other words, runs easier.

Now that's compared to it pushing the "big" tires through versus them pulling, where the original wheels the 45 had wouldn't be such a draw.

So, IDK.

But, no matter, pushing any tires takes some HP, so it's not a comparison from 0. Anyway, looks good and cool project.

Pushing the stock tires in mud takes alot of power if they are plowing.   Proved that to a friend with a farmall M and a loader. He kept saying it was short on power cleaning his barn finial got him to put flotation tires on the front and he couldn't believe it was the same tractor.   So it all depends.   But plowing or using a loader i bet it actually uses the power better.
