We have 2 concaves in our machine,one on the door and one in the #3 spot. Setting up for beans I used a 3/8 in bar stock between cylinder and #3 concave. After the door was closed and seperator was started,cylinder hit hard on door concave. What is the proper way to set clearance with #2 concave omitted?

hmmm you have a problem... the clearance between the cylinder bars and ALL the concaves are supposed to be the same...
the door concave should be the same as the third..

agree with Tim....Double check your work.Look to see door isn't caved in raising bar....something is out of whack somewhere
I always check the most fwd concave on the rear door,no matter which position it's in...it's easiest.

Are you sure the rear swing down door is bolted up tight? Remove cylinder belt, turn cylinder and look for a cylinder bar that is higher than others or loose. MACK

Back in the day, I used to lay an 1/8" thick strap under the #5 concave to create a wedge effect like the L and M series had. Remove the cylinder belt and lower the cylinder while spinning it until it would start to tick both sides, and then zero the gauges.

Remove the header so you can see the door concave while its closed

When I last leveled my F cylinder I had the head off anyway switching heads and I used the door concave to check my clearance. you get a little view under the beater and enough room to get a hand in to measure. the F2 id imagine
should be the same

Thank for the advice Dm. Have 18 acres of beans to run if it ever dries out. Then bean head comes off for storage. Will definitly take a peek then
