 Topic: 220 wheel problem

Trying to put new tires and rims on a 220 with 18.4x38s. I either have the wrong rims or am missing something cause as it sits these wheel clamps ain't gonna tighten all the way without breaking something. Anyone see my mistake or had a similar struggle?

There is a sequence to tighten those clamps, should be in owners manual, maybe that will help.
Do you have the 3 missing clamps?

those rims must be for an IH? I've got rims off a JD on my 210, and they fit perfect, and all 7 lugs match their clamps. Not all double bevel rims are the same.

I put a set of 13.6x38 on 190xt for spraying and they were the same way. MACK

I just swapped rims and tires off a 210 onto a 220 this spring, and if I remember correctly that is about how they started out. You will never get them completely tight up against the cast, there should be a small gap, otherwise they will never really be tight on the rim, but on the cast instead.
I just noticed that two of the clamps don't line up with the torque bumps, that will be a problem, because of uneven clamping pressure. What kind of pulling are you doing with this tractor? Our center cast, has fewer clamps if I remember correctly.

I put them on just like a set of daytons on a truck. Jack the tire completely off the ground so it spins. Then place a block of wood on the ground after you've started all the clamps. Spin the tire and tighten where ever the rim/tire wobble towards the block. There is a torque spec for those but i just use my judgement with an impact.

i am going to say that they need to be lossened backup and center the wheel a little better make , sure the wedge area is clean so that the wedges move evenly, little drop of grease wont hurt somtimes

As has been said, you won't get the clamps tight against the cast, that would defeat the purpose and not give you any adjustment if they loosen over time. Looks right otherwise just get it centered and tighten in sequence.
