I know it's been discussed here before, but I can't find it.

Is there anything I can do to make it easier to break this thing loose? She's been parked about a year. I get to pulling a bush, didn't want to burn the clutch, so I popped the hand clutch forward and dumped the foot clutch, and proceeded to pick the front wheels off the ground about a foot. That wasn't supposed to happen LOL

I was sure. once I figured out it was stuck, that putting that much torque on her she'd break loose. I was obviously wrong.

Any advice? Additives? Suggestions?

First of all, is there a reason it would be stuck? Has it been sitting for a while and if so was the hand clutch engaged/pulled back? That is a no-no in storage anyway, but with it running in an oil bath it would be awfully hard to get them stuck together unless moisture got in and rusted them or the engagement arms. Take the battery box off and the cover over the clutch and look in there. If you don't see any broken parts and brass collar isn't worn and disengages with lever try to take a big flat screwdriver and gently tap in between the plates to see if they separate.

Sounds like good advice from Bill.
I have never seen one stuck.
Please describe the problem in some more detail.
1. So if you move the hand clutch lever forward does it make a snapping sound (going over center)?
2. If the hand clutch is in the forward position the tractor will still move when placed in gear and the foot clutch is allowed to come back?
Regards,
 Chris

Remove the battery box and the clutch cover that's under it. They run in oil and should never be stuck unless it was ran out of oil. If you don't see any broken parts you could remove the six bolts holding the clutch pressure plate on. Make sure you save the shims. Take a small pry bar and seperate the plates you only have a small amount of room but with the clutch disengaged there should be free play between all the plates.

Could be the snap ring has fallen off. Mine did that and the clutch was constantly engaged. I had a few posts on it with pictures you can search for.

It very well could be low on oil. She's leaking some, and the last time I used her was for a bunch of blade work...and yes, she sat engaged. I've never had this happen before. I'll start storing disengaged from now on.

The clutch arm works as normal. Snapping forward and back, it just doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

I'll check the oil level and let it sit for a while disengaged. If that doesn't cut it, I'll pull the plate and get a closer look.

Thanks for the advice!

Hi,
I had one WD where the two piece brass collar had worn out and the clutch was engaged all the time. Clutch lever would move but the brass collar was not functioning. Sounds like you will need to remove the battery box and cover, and check it out.

 Chris

As long as the torque tube is full of oil there's no need to store with the clutch disengaged. I bet 90% of WD's are sitting right now engaged. Key is to have full of oil and no water in it.
