   Hi,  on my allis d 17 series iv, should the hydraulic pump keep running, even though i'am not using the hydraulics or the three point arms? I don't think it should be running all the time, unless I am using it. if I run the tractor to long, and put my hands on the pump, it gets feels hot. I hope I didn't damage anything yet. if I leave it sit for a week without using it, the three point arms will go down slowly on there own, without touching the levers. I did replace the plungers in the hydraulics housing, took them out of a junk allis, and put in new o rings thinking that might solve the problem, but it didn't, the pump still keeps running all the time. also, before the arms would go down on their own a lot faster, while the tractor wasn't running, and then would slowly leak oil out of the rams, but it quit doing that after I put different plungers and new o rings. havn't figured out what the problem could be.  thanks,  for any help!

	First of all, you should have posted this in the "farm equipment" section. Secondly: On a D 17 series IV, the hydraulic pump runs when ever the engine is running - you cannot switch it on or off. Thirdly: the problem you describe is the lift arms staying up and not going down. The hydraulic pump is not the issue here. The issue is the mechanical linkage under the side console. There is one pivot point under there that activates the traction booster valve. Over the years, that pivot point gets seized up with rust and crud and pushes on the TB valve (causing the hydraulic arms to rise and stay up). Oil up that pivot point and work it loose. Problem solved.
