   HiI just decided to replace the brake bands on my 1936 WC, on removal of the top cover I find the Drum housing full of oil........!! now looks like a bigger job than I anticipated is this normal ? I am guessing that an oil seal has failed ? any guidance would be appreciated as to what I need to do to remedy this problem

	I can't get the brake leaver shaft out, I have hammered severn bells but it won't budge !! other than heat (oxy acet) which i don't have i see no other option !! is there a cotter pin that i can find holding it or just the key ? Any one had this problem and if so any sugestions how to remove this, I thought a few hours and job done ............. how wrong i was

	Cotter pin on outside, lots of rust on inside, read paragraph with green arrow and understand you'll break your bands if you don't line up the key way!you're also best off to lube the shaft good where it passes through the brake assembly, I also drive a wood wedge in to keep the band centered in the housing while you are trying to beat the shaft out, saves a great deal of distortion on the band ends.

	Many thanks for replying, well I just got the shaft out !!! Now i need sort whats going on with the housing full of oil, can't find a drain plug !! How bigger job to replace oil seal ?

	Shoot me your email and I'll shoot you a PDF of the service manual, it's not that bad if a job, just a greasy one. There is no drain plug for the brake area, it does however have a open weep hole at the bottom inside that is clogged Up and allowing the cavity to fill. Take a pick and unstop these on both sides to keep area from filling up.

	Hole is right above the axle stub lock bolt

	thats great thanks I striped all down but can't see how to pull the bull pinion shaft out as its attatched to the drum ? i got a manual but cant make much sence of it ?? May be i no need replace oil seal if there ia a drain hole as you show, as to be honest when i took the plate off most that came out was water with as much oil floating on the top I see one bolt with wire that looks like it might be holding the brake drum ? but it is hard to get at, i am thinking forget the seal clear the hole and put it back ?? what is your advice

	Well Joe after a long hard day I finally managed to strip her down, could not see there was a plate behind the brake drum, but with a little heat and a bar and lump hammer it came out eventualy, got a bucket of crap out and a few old springs, I guess 80 yrs of sludge. Now i need buy a new oil seal, any leads on size or part number would be a great help as not a lot left of it after my handy work !!!!! Cant think you enough for all your help and taking the time tosend pictures etc much appreciated as always Tomorrow hopefully I can put her all back together John

	I want to say it's a skf/CR 19407, I have that penciled in one of my books Allis #is 70202602, maybe someone who is sure will answer up for you
