C Timing Jump

   Reset timing on my C and it started and ran. Shut it off, and went to start again, and the timing was off once again. Pulled the distributor out of the hole, and now notice that the gear down inside the distributor move forward and backward much more than I think it should. I belive this play is alowing the distributor drive gears to jump off a gear. This is the distributor that has the 2 dog ears that lock in where the mag was. It does not have the shaft that goes all the way through to the governor. Is there a bushing that may be out???? I had to leave for a school board meeting, and didnt get it all the way apart. As I rotated the distributor I could see the bottom gear moving forward and backward at least a quarter inch. Any thoughts.

	Craig, You might want to contact SteveNJ - B&B Circuits. He is the resident expert on electrical items for AC units. He may be well aware of what you speak. As stated in earlier posts since all the timing connections are gear driven it is considered difficult for your tractor to "jump timing" However, you seem to have hit on your problem. 	Yes the bushing at the bottom of the stem can get that bad. Once upon a time you could get the bushings at NAPA. They seem to have been slipping on older parts as of late but still worth a try as long as the gear teeth are not damaged.

	NAPA got away from Sealed Power and doing so they pretty much eliminated old AG engine parts. At least thats what the manager at the Newton (Company Owned) store told me. Dick, you have any pictures of what Craig is talking about? I have a governor gear out of a 125 engine for a mag. I'm wondering how that can happen. I thought the distributor laid horizontal and just butted up against the flange the mag attached to.
