I hate to say they were known for engine problems. The bigger problem seems to be that the engine are hard to get parts for now. Because of that, I don't think they'd be great now for a heavy working tractor. Light duty use would be better.

Allis needed a diesel engine to compete in the new competitor tractors coming out and they put the 262 BUDA in the D19,and ALLIS just bought Buda; they run so smooth and sound so good , but if you work them hard without the proper cool down , the head will crack , anyone ive ever looked at on a lot had a water leak; but there are some around yet with a good head , they are rare, and a decent one brings good money on Ebay ; The numbers were of gas or diesel, a lot more gassers built by AC ; The Buda 262 diesel was a good try by Allis, but just to hurried into the market;

Doug you are so right about the Diesel engines, they sound so good and smooth under a load, the gasers where better about staying togather and where the best on a combine, but the one biggest thing wrong with the 230/262 engines gas or Diesel they need better and or maybe more head bolts/studs to hold the head gasket.I wish the D19's had the 2800's in them over the 262's, that might have made one nice tractor! I have toyed with installing a 2800 or 2900 in a D19 keep the horse power down to 75 and run the heck out of it. lol
3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep.

Basically they are more play tractors than work tractors? Was considering buying one because they are pretty cool.
