Here: Read the fine print, I believe the WD45 section of this list gives the ENDING serial number for that year, not the beginning. And Welcome! Always good to have new members here! Stick around, there is a wealth of knowledge here, and you will learn tons! and post a pic when you can, we all love pics! Oh, and if you don't have a manual for your WD45 yet, GET ONE! LOL! It will answer most of your questions. You can get them all over, but getting it from here supports this site:

Very nice WD45 Danny. I may graduate to those after I get through " C school". LOL!
Tim, welcome to the forum! This is a great place to learn whatever you may need to know about orange tractors.
You can also go the Shops, barns, etc. foorum on here and get help, advice, or share feelings on anything you want(except politics, and there's a forum on here for that too, if you're so inclined. Nice place to vent occasionally.)

Tim, if you want to find out if the engine number fits the tractor you have go to the link.
This only shows WD45 serial numbers and engine numbers that were used with them. It does not go into 17 engine numbers.

I found the engine serial: 17-50744-M (From what I can tell a later model D17) Tractor's serial: 157962 (Later production in 1953?) I wish I had a better picture than one of the ones from the seller. It's rained every night since I've got it home, so it's still sittin on the trailer still! The tractor is stuck in first gear and I've been wanting to repair that before taking it off the trailer... I just don't want to open the top cover with it raining so much..It's not a show tractor.. but for a first tractor I'm really pleased :) Enjoy!

Nice tractor Tim. Did you get the rotary mower as well? That is an Allis Chalmers mower, a five footer from the looks of it. They are an excellent mower, will take down anything the tractor can push over. Welcome to the site. Don Jr.

I did get the mower with it. The guy thought it was a New Holland, but I can't find markings on it.
