If the FIRE mark is in the center of the round hole on the flywheel on a C does that mean that #1 cylinder is top dead center, or can it be off 180 degrees????For some reason I cant remeber. I guess 40 years old, and 25 projects on my mind is taking its toll.

#1 would be at TDC but it may be ready to fire on #4, I look at the valves to see if both are closed on #1 or #4 to tell the difference. I am sure someone else will have a better description

TDC is top dead center. The fire mark is before top dead center. And you have to either look at the valve train or use the thumb in the number one hole to tell which cylinder is coming up on compression in order to tell if number 1 is getting ready to fire.
