51 CA High crop?

Going to look at an old 51 CA the man says it is a high crop, PTO, belt drive with rear lift arms but no SC setup.  No hand clutch, no hi/low.  It is WFE with a big old curved toolbar/hitch bolted to the finals out by the brakes.    Said it is serial number 061215.     Said it has the solid style wheels non spin adjust.   Does all that sound right?  He said he is an Oliver man but the lady down the road gave it to him when she left the home farm for town.     I thought CA was Snap coupler but maybe later in the 50's?     What constitutes high crop?    Wheels different?  

I am still learning and appreciate any reference you can give.    I know this one is a runner and is not real pretty but works.  Engine is strong and does not smoke and the rubber is real good.  Could this be in the $1000- $1200 range as described?      Anyone have a pic of one.

Never seen one without spin-out rims and the serial # doesn't make sense. The hand clutch and snap coupler were an option but  haven't seen one with hi/low. A picture of the tractor would be interesting.

Snap couple hitch was not available in 1951. The CA will have a serial number that starts with CA. Allis never used a 0 before other numbers at least during the 40's and 50's. It would also have power shift wheels, pan seat and 4 speed tranny. The drawbar you describe is for a C, which would be a 3 speed and serial number starts with C. It would be possible to put a C drawbar on a CA I guess if someone wanted to.

Sounds like it may be a C. If it has a three speed tranny, it is. serial number sounds like a C from 1945 or later. Should either have a C or CA as first part of serial#. C had bench seat(unless it had the Monroe-Matic seat option. If it has hydraulics, it will still have the rock shaft that runs across the back of the seat frame instead of the two lift arms like a CA. It will also most likely have a distributor instead of a mag, but could have been changed. Tranny, seat setup, and wheels are most telling signs.

Maybe that first digit is a C that looks like a O.

C61215 is a 1948 C. CA's didn't go past 40,000

Rear wheels have six bolts; didn't C have only 5?  The wheels in the picture are spin-outs.  I think it probably is a CA.  But the serial number doesn't make sense, unless it is not really the tractor serial number.

As ususal, you fellas nailed it right down.... it is a C.   The man read the C in the serial number as a 0.   That makes it a 47 I think.  3 speed.  The pan seat he described has to be the optional Monroe.   Not sure about the lift arms setup other than he said no snap couple on the end of the arms, just holes and slots?    Has a distributor and C wheels.    His grandson may get me a photo but it a C for sure.  Probably just taller than he is used to seeing.      Appreciate the help.  Especially that seat info.   Didn't know you could get that big spring pan instead of the bench.

C51514 is the last C built in 1947.  C61215 would be a 1948. People read these serial number charts wrong all the time because they list the last  number of the year instead of the first.When the D series tractors started they listed the first number tractor for the year.

Hey Lonnie, is that Paul Newman in the pic with that CA? Looks like him, or a much younger picture of my Grandad.  Couldn't have been, though. Gramps never farmed with anything that didn't have four feet. LOL!
