can I put wd rear wheels on my D-15. I can find used 28 inch rims and tires all day. seems 26 inch are not as common. Thanks.

The complete rim and spin-out center will fit a D-15, yes.

If there isn't any fender issues that's what I'd do.Have 14.9's on the WD and you can't set wheels in the last notch but don't need that setting anyway.

That's one of my arguments why a even a D-15 II never really replaced a WD-45 on a 3-16's mounted plow in tough going....less rubber and less engine torque.

If the tire has traction the slightly small diameter gives more pull for a given ground speed and engine power. The trade off is the bigger tire often has more area on the ground and so is a bit better at converting torque to pull. Its also affected by weight on the tires, type of tire (bias vs radial, radial always pulls better), engine torque and gear ratios.

A two inch larger rim with the same cross section tire also means the axle housing clears the ground by another inch, handy when cultivating or spraying row crops.

The taller rear tires could make it tough to hookup snap coupler equipment. I have 16.9-28's on my WD45, and unless everything's perfect I usually have to jack up the snap coupler hitch 1-2 inch to get inside the bell.

Make sure you use the rail stops, if the eccentrics don't hold the tires will hit the fenders.
